Nano-Machines and You

The common term for any machine that dwarfs an organic's typical ability to physically handle or operate directly is a Nano-Machine (also nanomachine). The term has stuck quite hard, despite the attempts from many purists to migrate to the more accurate Micro-Machine, which has not stuck, despite its accuracy. Regardless of the term, the facts are here to stay, Nanomachines are ever present in all developed areas of the galaxy, and place at least a small part in the less settled areas.

Nano-Machines make a great many biomedical, technical, and practical applications possible. Whether through Z-Forging precise materials, or large materials even. Starting a new extranet connection where previously there was none. For broad-spectrum surveillance and security purposes. Some practical defense, or offensive capabilities. Perhaps even just for the luxury and convenience of having your drink levitated over to you.

Often, Nanomachine try to obscure their presence with smart coloration and an absence of light. This can, when they swarm for a given purpose, give a shimmering effect. Other times, because we organic life-forms are vain creatures, they are made to light up in colors that can be determined by their users - mimicking the look and mystery of fantastical magic.

All you can imagine, and more, are possible in the galaxy today. And it'd be wise to get with the times.
